The animation style looks amazing! Kudos to the guy who's doing the animation. Action! Thrills! Laffs! These are words that can describe 'Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Based on the children books by American author and illustrator Dav Pilkey of the same name. The computer animation movie from DreamWorks Animation and Scholastic Entertainment, with help from Mikros Image Montreal, tells the story of imaginative elementary school prankster students, George Beard (Voiced by Kevin Hart. Harold Hutchins (Voiced by Thomas Middleditch) in their attempt to hypnotize their mean-spirited principal, Mr. Krupp (Voiced by Ed Helms) into thinking he is Captain Underpants, a hero in comic books that George and Harold write together, in order to prevent him, from separate them, into different classrooms, while also stopping, an evil professor named Poopypants (Voice by Nick Kroll) from stealing the laughter from children, all over the world in an outrageous full of plot-holes and loose ends teaching scheme. Without spoiling the film, too much, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie' is guaranteed to amuse most young children and maybe some adults. That's, as long as you don't have a problem with confusing unrealistic cartoony plot, being told in a somewhat over the top/racist creepy European exposition, including voice overs from children, sounding like teenagers, in a film full of juvenile potty humor. Trust me, you really have to be OK with that, because it's constant in this animation movie. I thought, I can handle it, but it did kinda get annoying and tiresome toward the end with the giant version of the Turbo Toilet 2000, and the repetitive jokes about Professor Poopypants' name. I get it, but some of the jokes sequences like Whoopee Cushions Concert made parts of this film, hard to watch, because how flat the joke was. There wasn't anything clever, with the delivery. Of course, I knew, that with a title like 'Captain Underpants' would have stupid immature jokes like this, but I still think, they kinda overdo it. They could had cut, a lot of this, in favor, for more unique and smart break the forth wall jokes, humorous exaggeration story-telling, elaborate slap-sticky moments and insane visual styles like the sock-puppet, flip book, stop-motion and childish 2D hand-drawn comic book drawing, which I love. Sadly, which was somewhat limited compare to the high amount of lower form of dumb humor. Still, I love this PG film for what it tries to go for. It reminds me, of 2016's Rated R film 'Deadpool' in its silly self-aware comic book approach. Just more family friendly. Yet, I just wish, it was a little more funny and enjoyable, that's all. Nevertheless, thanks to a top-notch screenplay by Nicholas Stoller and the direction from David Soren, I can say, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie' manages to be both a faithful adaptation of Dav Pilkey's source material and still bring something new to the table. The voice actors are all well cast, and the movie's mix of animation styles keeps things lively and unexpected. However, I can somewhat understand those, who want to stay away from this movie. I get the controversy. The film does have a message that encourage children to disobey authority & tease others. Also, I do get, that some of toilet humor does seem a bit unsuited for some ages. I can also understand, the insensitivity that comes with the film trying to tackle issues like ADHD & homosexuality. Still, I don't understand, why some over-protective parental groups felt to boycott or start bans against this movie. Seeing how the film does offers a strong message about friendship, and nice argument in favor of arts, music, and creativity in kids' education. To them, I only have one thing to say. It isn't their job to police society's children on what kids should watch or shouldn't see. It's the individual parents. If parents watch to take their children to see this movie. I have no problem with that. It's not like, Dreamworks Animation is making an animation version of author J.D Salinger's 'The Catcher in the Rye. Captain Underpants' no more of a danger to society norms than something like 2004's 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie. It's pretty damn harmless. Overall: While, this movie will never be as wildly popular as the book series in which, it takes its name, from. This animated comedy about friendship and farts is watchable, even if some of the jokes fall flat. You get what you expect with this very silly outrageous, movie. So check it out, if you want to.
I think that these flims by DreamWorks Animation is the last flims distributed by 20th Century Fox because of NBCUniversal bought DreamWorks Animation.
